You may need to pull a Hulk Hogan today

If you’ll be out of the office this afternoon taking in the solar eclipse, we hope you packed your orange Outter Banks tank top your wife hates because it’s going to be a HOT one. Or, at the very least, put your years of dedicatedly studying WWE to good use.

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission has issued an air quality alert for Franklin county today on account of blazing temps, high humidity, and low winds. Naturally, it’ll cool off once mid-day nightfall hits (solar eclipse slated for 1-4pm-ish).

The Air Quality Index puts us at a level unfit for sensitive groups (children, people who are sensitive to ozone, or those with heart or lung disease).

Here are suggestions to stay safe during these warm, muggy times courtesy of 10tv per MORPC:

    • Travel by carpooling, combining trips, riding COTA, bicycling, or walking to nearby destinations. MORPC can help you explore your commute options at gohiocommute.com or call 1-888-742-RIDE.
    • Turn off your engine instead of idling your vehicle to cut down on vehicle emissions.
    • Avoid refueling your vehicle, or wait until dusk to refuel your vehicle. Filling up your tank when the daytime heat has diminished helps to reduce harmful ground-level ozone pollution.
    • Avoid topping off your tank at the gas station. Spilled gasoline pollutes the air when it evaporates.
    • Avoid mowing your lawn on an Air Quality Alert day. Longer grass in your yard is good for the air, as well as the lawn.
