Back-to-school sucks so here’s a good deal

As a way to lessen the blow that is back-to-school–the dirtiest three word combo in the English language–Ohio is throwing a bone to consumers with a tax break. Sales tax will be exempt from clothing and school supplies this weekend only. This is the third year Ohio has recognized this tax-free weekend. Our only request, Ohio, is that you move the state holiday to weekdays next year so we don’t have to work *sunglasses emoji*

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Clothing must be $75 or less to qualify
  • Supplies must be $20 or less to qualify
  • School instructional materials must be $20 or less to qualify
  • All retailers who sell the above mentioned items participate
  • If a shipment of items ordered online are all aforementioned items, then shipping and handling costs are not taxable
  • There’s no limit on the number of items a customer can buy
  • Tax exemptions begin on Friday, August 4, at 12am and end on Sunday, August 6, at 11:59pm
  • Here is a very specific list of all items that don’t qualify for a tax break:
    • Items purchased for use in a trade or business.
    • Clothing accessories or equipment.
    • Protective equipment.
    • Sewing equipment and supplies.
    • Sports or recreational equipment.
    • Belt buckles sold separately.
    • Costume masks sold separately.
    • Patches and emblems sold separately
