Back-to-school sucks so here’s a good deal

As a way to lessen the blow that is back-to-school–the dirtiest three word combo in the English language–Ohio is throwing a bone to consumers with a tax break. Sales tax will be exempt from clothing and school supplies this weekend only. This is the third year Ohio has recognized this tax-free weekend. Our only request, Ohio, is that you move the state holiday to weekdays next year so we don’t have to work *sunglasses emoji*
Here’s what you need to know:
- Clothing must be $75 or less to qualify
- Supplies must be $20 or less to qualify
- School instructional materials must be $20 or less to qualify
- All retailers who sell the above mentioned items participate
- If a shipment of items ordered online are all aforementioned items, then shipping and handling costs are not taxable
- There’s no limit on the number of items a customer can buy
- Tax exemptions begin on Friday, August 4, at 12am and end on Sunday, August 6, at 11:59pm
- Here is a very specific list of all items that don’t qualify for a tax break:
- Items purchased for use in a trade or business.
- Clothing accessories or equipment.
- Protective equipment.
- Sewing equipment and supplies.
- Sports or recreational equipment.
- Belt buckles sold separately.
- Costume masks sold separately.
- Patches and emblems sold separately
