#Fit614: Conquering the Scioto Audubon

By Kaitlin Perfect

When my boyfriend suggested going to the Scioto Audubon park to workout I thought, “Sure! Jog around a couple trails, take some cute pictures with downtown in the background, spend some time outdoors — seems like an awesome week night date.”

That thought faded fast when we got to the park and saw the obstacle course with tires bigger than me, ropes to climb, balance beams, and monkey bars. What did I get myself into?!

We started by flipping tires to the grass line then back up to the starting line. Next we ran through flat tires, Cadet Kelly style.

The course was a little muddy from the wonderful Ohio weather we’ve been having recently — we skipped crawling through the tubes and jogged straight to the rope climbing wall (yes, we posed at the top to take a cute picture).

We then attempted to cross the wooden balance beams with muddy shoes and after a few unsuccessful attempts we went over to the monkey bars. The monkey bars were fairly easy after my boyfriend had to lift me up to reach them because #ShortPeopleProblems. The last stop for us was the over/under obstacle which we mainly just jumped over because once again…mud.

After the obstacle course we jogged around the park to check out the views of downtown and everything else that Scioto Audubon has to offer. For being as close to downtown as it is, the park is really quiet and peaceful. You wouldn’t realize you were in downtown Columbus if you couldn’t see it.

I’m no fitness expert, but if you want a fun and free workout to do with your significant other/friends/family I recommend checking out the Scioto Audubon Metro Park!
