#Fit614: Feeling strong, sexy, and confident at pole dancing
By Kaitlin Perfect
When you think of “pole dancing” I’m sure the first thoughts that come to mind are “strippers”, “exotic night clubs”, and “little-to-no clothing”. Well, that’s not necessarily the case.
Pole dancing for exercise is becoming pretty popular around the world. In fact, there are some pole dancing studios right here in Columbus. I headed over to Rogue Studio to see what all the hype was about.
Studio Rouge, located in Grandview, shares a building with Snap Fitness. Each pole dancing class is kept to a maximum of six women, which gives participants the attention they need. Believe me, all six of us in the Intro to Pole session needed all the attention we could get.
After warming up with some stretching and light conditioning, we got into the routine — yes, you learn a pole routine during class not just random moves.

At the beginning of the routine you learn the token walk where you gracefully strut around the pole with one hand grasping it. With the other hand, we were taught the seduction tactic of running it from your hips up through your hair and back down. Then we learned a couple of spins, slides, and how to combine motions.
Carolyn, who taught my class, is the owner of Studio Rogue and probably one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. She creates a very welcoming environment at her studio and ensures everyone’s experience is a good one.
Overall, pole dancing is one of the most interesting workouts I’ve done in my life. I felt strong, sexy and confident.
So whether you want to go with a couple of girlfriends for “girls night out”, take a class for a bachelorette party, or just want to experience it on a random Monday night like I did — go check out Studio Rouge and I promise you will not be disappointed!
