Franklin County could hog all the marijuana dispensaries

Columbus could be one of two cities to hog the medical marijuana licenses in Ohio. Out of all 88 counties in Ohio, both Franklin and Cuyahoga counties qualify to house the most dispensaries.

The Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program has drafted up a map of the maximum dispensaries allowed in each region and county. Before drawing up the maps, The Board considered is county’s:

  • access to major Ohio roadways
  • patient populations
  • established rules and regulation in other state medical marijuana programs

The region encapsulating Franklin in southeast Ohio is slated to receive 17 dispensaries and Franklin County itself could get up to five–tied with Cuyahoga for the most in Ohio.

Overall, the Buckeye State has been awarded 60 licenses for marijuana production facilities to be dispersed throughout all regions.

The Board is accepting public comment on the draft medical marijuana dispensary districts until August 11. Submit comments to [email protected].
