“This one’s for you mom!” That is the opening line of a musical recording Sam McCarthy, of Columbus, made for her mother before losing her battle to a rare blood disease. Sam passed away at Nationwide Children’s Hospital back in 2009. She was 11 years old.
One of the only things that gave young Sam peace and comfort during her 14 month bout with Fanconi Anemia was music therapy. Sam’s family decided that was the avenue they could best honor her legacy.
So exists Sam’s Fans.
Driven by Sam’s mother, father, and three brothers, the non-profit has raised over $150k for music and art therapy for sick children.
Sam’s Fans boomed loudly enough to perk the ears of TODAY and warmed hearts enough to get some well-deserved air time.
