Hilliard says “Eh, maybe” to marijuana industry

When marijuana was legalized for some conditions, it also came with the right for municipalities to limit or ban such businesses and places around Columbus are exercising this right. Hilliard recently placed a six-month moratorium on the pot industry. They are now among Grandview, Dublin, and Upper Arlington who have also either placed or are considering placing a similar prohibition on the legal marijuana. Some municipalities have banned cultivators, retail dispensaries, and processors all together.

Here are a few reasons why city officials aren’t hip with legal cannabis:

  • It’s a cash-based industry
  • Banks don’t want to work with an industry that isn’t legal nationwide
  • People want to wait until the rules are totally finalized over the next few months
