Update: Short North parking meeting cancelled

Update: Initially, we received word of a meeting slated for tonight to discuss the Short North parking situation. Those reports are false. Columbus is pumping the brakes on the plan to do a parking overhaul. It was not developed enough to pursue it futher. What that means for us is that we have to sit back and be patient. Our city is working to develop the best, most-comprehensive plan for making the Short North accessible by car.

July 13, 2017 9:52am: When most people think of the Short North, the first things to come to mind are probably bars, restaurants, entertainment, galleries, and parking headaches.

Tonight at 5:30pm, another meeting is scheduled to address that issue. This is the second of three meetings regarding the City of Columbus’ Short North parking plan.

If this plan flies, the neighborhoods on both sides of High Street would be divided into zones. Permit holders could park for as long as they want for a flat fee. People without a permit would pay $1 an hour during the day and $2.50 in the evening These same people would also be required to move their vehicles every six hours during the day and every three hours in the evening.

If you get a bit further from High St., parking would be free for non-permit holders.

If passed by City Council, the plan will be a three-year pilot program and the Department of Public Service will have the authority to set parking rates.

The meeting will be held at 5:30 at the Junior Achievement offices on east 2nd Ave.
