In the wee hours of this morning, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium welcomed the first giraffe calf born at the facility in nearly 20 years.
Mother Zuri’s birth was caught live on a National Geographic live cam in the giraffe enclosure in the zoo’s Heart of Africa region.
The sex of the calf is not yet known.
Zoo staff is monitoring 6-year-old female Masai giraffe, Cami, who is also expecting soon.

Is the calf a male or female? What’s your guess? Our animal care team are watching mom Zuri and her little one, but have yet to get close enough to confirm the calf’s sex. Watch the livestream on @NatGeoWild now: GiraffeBirthCam.com #GiraffeBirthCam
