Just a few days away from Hollywood’s biggest night, Gateway Film Center invites Columbus moviegoers to catch up on all the year’s best films and the major Oscar contenders at the city’s independent, nonprofit, world recognized theater.

It’s like a second Christmas around here,” shared GFC President Chris Hamel. “Oscar night is one of my favorite nights of the year and I’m delighted to see so many American independents being celebrated.”

Gateway Film Center is proud to have had over 70 feature length nominations on-screen including every Best Picture nominee, boasting the deepest field of contenders in a decade. Also, GFC is the only theater in Columbus showing all of the Oscar-nominated shorts, including all the Live Action, Animated, and Documentary programs.

We’re thrilled to have presented all of these outstanding nominees in the cinema environment as they were intended,” continued Hamel. “I think the real runaways this year are Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) with an amazing performance in a role that seemed written for her and Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) in a mindblowing portrayal of Winston Churchill.”

In honor of Guillermo del Toro and his record-breaking award season film, The Shape of Water, GFC also presents its month-long retrospective of del Toro’s jaw-dropping work – “The Shape of del Toro” – all screened on 35mm film! Celebrating the monsters and “patron saints of imperfection,” the series concludes with atmospheric gothic romance meets Italian giallo Crimson Peak.

Awards Season rolls right into Oscar night on Sunday, March 4 culminating with the Academy Awards Celebration at GFC including a pre-Oscars party in The Torpedo Room with local gourmet hors d’oeuvres and themed drink specials. Attendees can mingle with GFC staff and other Oscar fans, participate in our “Beat the Prez” Oscar ballot competition, and watch the star-studded telecast on the big screen.
