Ohio State Dance has been at the forefront of contemporary dance for over 50 years, educating students through a breadth of study.

We invite you to celebrate that legacy with us at our 50th Anniversary Celebration during the second and third weekends of November, with public performances November 8-10, November 15-17 and an Alumni Reunion Brunch on November 18.

Dance education pioneer Helen Alkire had a vision to train students to be savage entrepreneurs, preparing them for a lifetime career in dance, so she created what has become one of the broadest Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) dance programs in the country.

Led by Alkire, the department was established in 1968 as a unit within the College of the Arts. Previously the dance major was part of the College of Education and as such is one of the oldest dance departments in the country.

“Dance at Ohio State allows us to find, forge and follow our own paths,” says 2015 BFA Alumna Shanon Drake. “Our relationship with dance shapes how we interact with ourselves, each other and the world. The Department of Dance gives us experiences, resources and ideas to last a lifetime.”
