Since 1979, the Dairy Barn Arts Center, located in Athens, Ohio, has produced the world-renowned Quilt National presenting new work of fiber artists from around the world who enrich the art of quilt making. After its premiere at the Dairy Barn, the exhibition travels near and far.

The Ohio Arts Council’s (OAC) Riffe Gallery has shown this prestigious exhibition eight times in the past and is proud to host Quilt National 2017 January 25 – April 14, 2018, featuring approximately a third of the original 86 works in the exhibition.

Quilt National 2017 marks the 20th biennial and continues to be enthusiastically dedicated to the promotion of the contemporary art quilt, providing the viewer a visual presentation of innovative trends in the medium of layered and stitched fabric. Artworks were selected by jurors Nancy Crow, Petra Fallaux, and Art Martin.

“Overall, the works juried into Quilt National 2017 were created by artists in charge of their ideas,” Crow said. “This is reflected in the evidence that many dug deeper, spending hours doing the slogging to find out who they really are, finding where their fresh ideas reside, ideas connected to them and their experiences.”

The OAC Riffe Gallery is free. Visit RiffeGallery.org for more information including affiliated programming.
