OSU Men’s B-Ball: Will Playing on Friday Be Lucky (or Unlucky) for #13 Buckeyes?

First, #13 Ohio State men’s basketball coach Chris Holtmann was named the 2018 B1G Ten Coach of the Year. Second, Buckeyes star forward #33 Keita Bates-Diop was named the 2018 B1G Ten Player of the Year, as well as remaining in the hunt as a top-10 finalist for the prestigious Naismith Trophy. The latter recognizes the best men’s college basketball player in the country and Ohio State’s NBA-prospect has an impressive résumé to boast. Third, three Buckeyes earned All-B1G Ten honors: Keita Bates-Diop (First Team), Jae’Sean Tate (Second Team) and Kaleb Wesson (All-Freshman Team).

The second-seed Buckeyes will try to add more shiny hardware at this weekend’s B1G Ten Tournament in Madison Square Garden. #13 Ohio State will play Friday night at 6:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network against the winner of tonight’s game between Northwestern and Penn State.

P.S. OSU fans are probably rooting for the Wildcats tonight.

OSU Women’s B-Ball: Will Playing on Friday Be Lucky (or Unlucky) for #13 Buckeyes?

Senior guard #3 Kelsey Mitchell, the B1G Ten Player of the Year as voted by conference coaches, will lead the one-seeded Buckeyes in the B1G Ten Tournament this weekend in Indianapolis. Like the men’s team, three Buckeyes earned first and second team All-B1G Ten honors: Stephanie Mavunga (First Team), Kelsey Mitchell (First Team) and Linnae Harper (Second Team). Ohio State will go into Indy on a 4-game winning streak and a dominating 25-point road win against Penn State.

The #13 Ohio State Buckeyes will play either the Boilermakers or the Scarlet Knights when they take the court Friday night at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse at noon on BTN2Go.

Crew SC Starts Working for the Cup (of Salvation Away from Anthony Precourt)

With forward #11 Gyasi Zardes acclimating well to his new Midwestern home and midfielder #32 Pedro Santos looking more comfortable in his second year with the club, the new-look Crew SC enter this season with some optimism. And with a healthy combination of new players – young and old – the Black & Gold will be an exciting team to watch. Also keep in mind that, quite possibly, the backbone of the new USMNT with a necessary phoenix-complex (goalie Zack Steffen, defensive midfielder Wil Trapp and forward Gyasi Zardes) is currently starring for Crew SC right here in Columbus.

It’s almost as if Columbus is a critically important soccer city in the United States…

Columbus Crew SC kicks-off their 2018 MLS campaign in a highly-anticipated matchup against the 2017 MLS Cup champion Toronto FC in Canada on the same BMO Field where their 2017 season ended. The game is this Saturday at 1 p.m. on ABC 6 WSYX and Spectrum Sports.
