614Sports: Clippers clench the game, not Ohio Machine’s year
Clippers Get the Last Run Against Louisville
The Columbus Clippers defeated the Louisville Bats 9-8 yesterday at Huntington Park, which evened the 4-game weekend series at 2-2.
Yesterday’s game seemed to be in cruise control with Columbus leading 8-3 before Louisville’s bats went crazy for five runs that tied the game at 8-8 in the seventh inning. Then Clippers third baseman #11 Yandy Diaz hit a single in the bottom of the eighth that drove in the run that earned Columbus a 9-8 victory.
A 3-game road series in North Carolina followed by a 3-game road series in Virginia this week against the top-two teams in the International League South—the Durham Bulls and Norfolk Tides—will test the mettle of the Clippers as Columbus is only 3.5 games behind the first-place Indianapolis Indians in the International League West.
The Columbus Clippers (58-54) start a 3-game series in North Carolina against the Durham Bulls (62-47) tomorrow at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The first pitch of the series is tomorrow at 6:05 p.m.

The Ohio Machine’s 2018 Shift Ended in Boston
The Ohio Machine (3-11) lost its final regular season game this past weekend 23-14 against the Boston Cannons (5-9) in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
By finishing in last place in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) standings, the Machine will not have the opportunity to defend its 2017 championship. However, despite a season that did not work as planned, the Machine’s average margin of defeat was just 4 goals.
Having said that, the Ohio Machine do not appear to be a great distance away from reversing its 2018 struggles into a promising 2019 campaign.
One silver lining from finishing in last place in the MLL—though little comfort today—is that the Ohio Machine will select first in the 2019 MLL Draft.
