614Sports: Crew player tied for 2nd top scorer in MLS this weekend
Crew SC’s 2-1 Win Against RSL = 3 Points
Facing the visiting Real Salt Lake (RSL) in 90-degree heat at kickoff, Columbus Crew SC’s #11 Gyasi Zardes converted a PK in the 6th minute for his 11th goal of the 2018 campaign.
With that goal, Mr. Zardes is tied for second in MLS alongside New York Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips.
Less than 20 minutes later, #20 Eduardo Sosa extended the Crew’s lead to 2-nil by curling a shot from inside the right side of the 18 into the back post past MLS veteran goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the 23rd minute in his debut start for Crew SC. Mr. Sosa’s goal was assisted by #9 Pedro Santos.
Despite Salt Lake getting one back in the 74th minute courtesy of #11 Albert Rusnák, Columbus successfully held off several near-goal attempts by RSL in the second half for a 2-1 win and three critical points in front of more than 16,000 fans at MAPFRE Stadium.
Columbus Crew SC (30 points) travel back to Los Angeles literally a week after facing LAFC in So Cal to play the Zlatan Ibrahimović-led Los Angeles Galaxy (21 points) at the StubHub Center this Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Clippers Were Red-Hot Over the Weekend
A four-game sweep of the Indianapolis Indians at home in Huntington Park this past weekend brings the Columbus Clippers just 1.5 games behind the second-place team in the International League West. And that team just happens to be the Indianapolis Indians.
So, it was a great weekend for the Clippers.
The Clippers can continue to climb the International League West ladder this week against the Toledo Mud Hens, which is the first-place team in the aforementioned division. And Columbus trails Toledo by a mere four games.
The Columbus Clippers (42-39) travels north to Toledo for games today and tomorrow against the Mud Hens (46-35) before returning home to Huntington Park to play the very same Toledo Mud Hens on Wednesday and Thursday. The first pitch for all four of these games is 7:05 p.m.
