Alabama, you may have won the battle this last football season but Ohio State University has won the war: The Best College Sports program in the overall 2017-18 season.

Each year, CBS Sports crunches the numbers from each collegiate sport season to determine which school has the strongest athletic program as a whole.

And just like in 2015, Ohio State reigns king/queen (510.50 points).

“The Buckeyes accomplished this feat in large part due to a tremendous football season with the program finishing 12-2 and No. 5 in the final AP Top 25 with a Cotton Bowl victory and Big Ten title,” wrote CBS Sports.

They also attribute the win to strong men’s basketball (25-7, No. 17 AP) and women’s basketball (28-7, No. 10 AP) seasons, the wrestling team finishing national runner-up, men’s volleyball getting to the national semifinal, both hockey teams making it to the Frozen Four. and both softball and baseball making the NCAA Tournament.

Riding in on Ohio State University’s coattails is Alabama (477.50 points). Though their football season outshone ours, their basketball teams fell short.

Oklahoma came in third (477.50).

Here is a breakdown of CBS Sport’s algorithm:

  • Three sports are analyzed: Football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball
  • An additional two “wild card” sports that are among the schools’ most successful spectator sports are also considered: baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, gymnastics, lacrosse, hockey and wrestling.
  • Football is given 2.5x more emphasis than women’s basketball and “wild card” sports
  • Men’s basketball is given 2x more emphasis than women’s basketball and “wild card” sports
  • Teams that did not finish in the final AP Top 25 in football but played in a bowl were awarded 62.5 points
  • Teams that made the NIT were given 20 points, while WNIT teams received 10 points
  • All champions in the other sports received 100 points for a national title
