3rd time NOT charm for German Village hotel proposal

The third time was not the charm for a proposed German Village hotel.

Despite downsizing their plan for the hotel at 31-35 E. Livingston Ave., developers are still being met with resistance from officials and residents who say it will be too big, cause traffic problems, create more noise, and adversely affect nearby property values.

This parcel is currently a parking lot and a vacant stucco building, reports Columbus Business First.

Columbus Business First reports the German Village Commission told developer Luxe Hotel that at five stories tall, the downsized plan is still too tall for the neighborhood.

Three of the seven members said the $22 million project has a better chance of being approved if it shrunk even more.

Luxe Hotel believes this is a good example of developing the historic neighborhood while still preserving existing architecture.

The architect added that even with the hotel, German Village would never look like Short North.
