Construction on New Albany’s newest park is underway and is expected to bridge the community literally and figuratively.

The $17 million Rose Run Park will feature a 60-feet-long and 34-feet-wide bridge across the stream that runs along Dublin-Granville Road.

The pedestrian bridge will provide direct access from the New Albany-Plain Local Schools complex and McCoy Center for the Arts to the north to the New Albany Branch of Columbus Metropolitan Library, the Philip Heit Center for Healthy New Albany, retail, offices and several stores and restaurants in Market Square.

Plans also call for an outdoor amphitheater to the west of McCoy, plus a park offering patio space and a garden outside the library,  reports Columbus Business First.

Piggy-backing off this project will be the first half-mile leg of the Velo Loop, a proposed 5-mile bike-only trial that runs alongside major city thoroughfares.

According to Columbus Business First, the street will be permanently narrowed to two lanes along the length of the park, with a new crosswalk for improved safety and terraced seating.

Columbus-based MSKS designed the landscape architecture while Cincinnati-based Messer Construction Co. is overseeing the construction.

Rose Run park is expected to open in late 2019.
