Uniquely safe Fire House going up in growing area
Ground has broken on a first-of-its-kind fire station on the Far East side.
Fire Station #35 at 711 N. Waggoner Road will be the city’s first fire station designed specifically too keep the firefighters’ living areas free of the harmful contaminants of firefighting.
Fire contaminated materials have been linked to cancer-causing carcinogens in recent studies.

With the growing population of the Far East side, Fire Station #35 will help cut response times in the area by up to 40 percent.
This project is also the first fire station built under a Community Benefits Agreement, which ensures that talented Columbus residents seeking employment in the trades are given an opportunity to learn.
The project, which has been in the works since the Great Recession, is expected to be completed sometime in 2019.
