Made in Cbus: Local mom’s small biz brimming with success

Brim Papery is a made-by-hand stationary and gift company based right here in Columbus, Ohio. The face behind it is one boss mom-trepreneur.

Jolie Ankrom began Brim after leaving her job as a Spanish teacher and deciding to stay at home with her newborn daughter. In a personal statement on Brim’s website, she writes that she loved being at home but was longing for a way to develop something that was completely hers. Ankrom first began creating simple hand-written greeting cards but quickly expanded her product offering as the brand grew in popularity.

“Every product at Brim has been designed and lettered by hand by me, either on paper or with my stylus! I make things to empower and unite women,” she wrote. “Ok, also to make them laugh.”

Since 2013, the brand has grown from e-commerce, to brick and mortar store shelves all over the US, and boasts 24.8k followers on Instagram. Ankrom now works out of a studio at3763 N High St. in Clintonville where she hosts creative workshops.

“I wanted to always remember the season of life that this business was born out of – a season where my cup was filled to the brim with new life and new opportunity,” wrote Ankrom. “I hope for it to be a constant reminder of how lucky I was to be able to have both motherhood and creativity, coexisting together.”
