No paycheck? No health insurance. Kasich stepping in
The lifestyle of unemployed people benefiting from Medicaid may come to a screeching halt soon. Gov. John Kasich is vying to make employment a requirement for people getting coverage from the Affordable Care Act, a tax-funded health insurance for the poor and disabled.
People that would be exempt from the employment requirement include:
- Those 55 and older
- Those in school or training for job
- Those in drug/alcohol addition treatment
- Those who have intensive health care needs/suffer from serious mental illness
Per usual, Republicans and Democrats are standing at very opposites ends of the argument—The former saying this requirement would motivate people to work and decrease tax dollar spending, the latter rebutting with studies showing most Medicaid recipients are already working and rely on Medicaid because their employers don’t offer coverage.
What do you think about this proposed requirement for people covered by the Affordable Care Act?
