“Nobody Is Above the Law:” Russia investigation rally draws hundreds

The streets of downtown Columbus were packed last night with people vying for a more sound Justice Department on the heels of Attorney General Jeff Session’s resignation at the request of President Donald Trump.

“We can’t have a government where it becomes not the United States of America, but the United States of a person who gets to decide what they want to do,” Mia Lewis, a member of Indivisible Columbus who organized the event, told ABC6.

The attendees of the “Nobody Is Above the Law” rally at Bicentennial Park and most Democrats believe the resignation is an attempt to end Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia meddling in the 2016 election.

They say the American people need an impartial Attorney General.

The group took its message all the way down to the office of Republican Senator Rob Portman.

Senator Portman’s press office sent this statement to ABC6 in response to the rally and resignation of Sessions:

“Rob has said consistently that he supports the Mueller investigation, he believes that the special counsel should follow the facts wherever they lead, and he hopes that we will see the results of this investigation soon.”

Senator Browns office also released this statement to ABC6 following the resignation of Sessions:

“No one is above the law, not even the President,” Brown said. “Our justice system is bigger than any one political party, and the FBI, Justice Department and Special Council must be allowed to do their jobs without political interference.”
