Clintonville live bird hoarder sentenced
Update: The Columbus resident who was housing more than 600 live birds in Clintonville has been sentence.
Susan Stieve was sentenced to five years of probation and paid $10,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to two counts of prohibitions concerning companion animals.
As part of the agreement, nearly 100 birds will be returned to Stieve and she is subject to unannounced visits from humane agents or probation officers to ensure that the birds in her house are receiving optimal care.

Columbus Humane will work with avian rescue groups to place the majority of the remaining birds.
“Overall, we are pleased with the resolution of this case,” said CEO Rachel Finney. “We knew a population of birds was likely to be returned to the owner and we are grateful that we’ll be able to conduct inspections to ensure proper care for the birds throughout the probation period.”
On August 14, 2018, Columbus Humane, with the assistance of the ASPCA and local authorities, recovered 617 exotic birds from Stieve’s home after reports of severe neglect by a concerned citizen.
08/14/2018: The Capital Area Humane Society and ASPCA are currently removing more than 600 live birds from a home in Clintonville.
Birds of all feathers including parakeets, cockatiels, finches, Macaws, African grey parrots, Amazon parrots and Cockatoos were found living in extremely overcrowded conditions, according to the ASPCA, per 10TV.
Staff members are removing the caged birds and moving into U-Haul Trucks where they will transported to temporary shelter to receive medical care.

The seizure stemmed from a public complaint regarding living conditions and suspected animal neglect, reports 10TV.
No charges have been filed at this time.
Columbus Humane will be closed to the public Tuesday as the staff focues on this seizure and investigation.
