Aw crikey, beloved Clintonville ‘Kangaroo Crossing’ sign removed

Kangaroos in Clintonville? Not likely, but in the off chance there are, pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers wont’ be warned, now that the “Kangaroo Crossing” sign is gone.

Many people don’t know where the sign on Clinton Heights Ave. came from but the bright yellow piece of metal was a bright spot in the neighborhood. Most residents were fond of it and were certainly pissed when it was removed.

Workers from the city of Columbus removed the sign and transported it away after somebody complained to the police or a news station, reports WOSU.

“So thanks for squashing one of the best things about this corner of the neighborhood, whoever you are,” someone wrote in the Clintonville Facebook group. “If the irony of the joke was lost on you, doesn’t mean you have ruin it for the rest of us.”

The no-nonsense complainer got ahold of the city who was obligated to take down the sign because there was no permit for it.

But, if somebody comes forward to claim the sign as their own, the city will give it back as long as it doesn’t get reinstalled.

Talk about raining on the land down under AKA Clintonville….

Check out the GoFundMe dedicated to “the purchase of a replacement sign, a U-Channel sign post, and any miscellaneous costs involving the installation. Any additional funds raisied above the cost of the sign and it’s installation will be donated to a charity supporting kangaroo welfare.”

Visit WOSU to read about the origin of the sign.
