Columbus Police will be blowing up your phone with crime alerts soon

Soon, Columbus police will be sending crime and traffic alerts directly to your smartphone.
Columbus City Council OK’ed a $72,000 contract with MobilePD to create a smartphone app where users can submit crime tips and receive push notifications about police alerts in the area.

The Columbus Dispatch reports CPD currently uses social media to get information to the public but this only benefits individuals using the social media platform at the time the information goes out.
The app’s ability to send push notifications will help CPD get more information to more people more easily.
Look for the app to drop this fall.
