ComFest 2018: The year of the woman
Women have played integral roles in ComFest since its inception 46 years ago but this year, they’re being brought into the spotlight, literally.
There will be 51 MCs throughout the course of the weekend and every single one of them will be female.
“The women’s march on Washington last January, the birth of #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, the public outing of abusive men in politics, media and entertainment and all workplaces, the arrest of Harvey Weinstein, the conviction of Bill Cosby—all have shed a bright light on struggles women face daily,” read the press release. “Yet, despite many challenges, women are excelling in unprecedented numbers.”

In a press release, festival organizers admit that over the years, some jobs have been dominated by men.
But in a move of progress during a time when inequality and mistreatment towards women is becoming so common, ComFest has decided to flip the script.
“Organizers are excited to welcome these 51 women as ambassadors of ComFest’s 2018 spirit,” read the press release. “It is a visible statement of support for women everywhere.”
