Criticized for contributing to epidemic, Cardinal Health donates big to opioid prevention

After being linked to lawsuits for contributing to the opioid drug epidemic, Dublin-based Cardinal Health has decided to turn those claims on their heads and give back to overdose prevention efforts.

According to 10TV, the health care servicer has pledged $10 million to naloxone purchasing—the drug that revives overdose victims—and drug take-back events.

This fat contribution will translate into more than 80,000 doses of naloxone which is critical during this time when responders across the nation are faced with a shortage of the drug yet demand for it is as high as it’s ever been.

The donation is part of Cardinal Health’s “Opioid Action Program.”

This drug manufacturer as well as others have been accused of contributing to the opioid epidemic but all have maintained their innocence.
