Hilliard parks and rec director canned without reason

In wake of the Hilliard deputy director of the Recreation and Parks Department thieving from the city’s pool fund, the Director has been terminated.

Hilliard Mayor Don Schonhardt announced Hilliard Recreation and Parks director Steve Mazer’s firing, “effective immediately,” without reason. Mazer put in 22 years of work with the city’s recreation and parks department.

The statement did not say the termination had anything to do with the $540,000 worth of city money stolen by a former park official. The Dispatch reports the case remains active but no comments were provided.

The City will begin the process of searching for a permanent replacement.
