OSU alum called “knight in shining armor” during Thai cave rescue
Even now after the 12 soccer players and coach have been rescued from the cave in Thailand, international news remains fixated on the events surrounding the 18-day ordeal.
Today, the news hits closer to home.
Described in Stuff.co.nz as “rescue head,” Narongsak Osottanakorn played a major role in the rescue operation and also is an Ohio State University alumni.
Osottanakorn studied geodetic engineering and surveying at Ohio State from 1985-88, graduating with a masters degree.

He played a role in the rescue because of his role as governor of the Chiang Rai providence where the cave system is located, reports Eleven Warriors.
The Dispatch reports a the Nation News Network website calling Narongsak “one of the knights in shining armor” during the mission.
He was responsible for launching the rescue, handling the international media, and also took it upon himself to visit the families of the trapped soccer players daily.
