Spraying ensues after West Nile found in buzzing pests

Franklin County Public Health officials will be spraying today to keep us safe from the West Nile virus.

This comes after trapped mosquitos from the area tested positive for the virus..

The pesticide spraying will take place at around 9pm in western Westerville, Canal Winchester, and Urbancrest, reports The Dispatch.

Symptoms of West Nile include fever, headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea or rash.

According to health officials per The Dispatch, protect yourself against the virus by:

• Limiting outdoor activity at dusk and dawn, when mosquitoes are most active, or wearing long sleeves and pants, socks and shoes.
• Using insect repellent registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (such as one containing DEET).
• Installing or repairing window screens.
• Eliminating standing water where mosquitoes can breed, such as in buckets, flower pots, bird baths, toys or wading pools.
