Rock on the Metro Park will definitely not be a thing

About a week ago, The Columbus Dispatch ran a story about Rock on the Range eyeballing a Columbus Metro Park as a location for a future rock fest.

Metro Parks blew out that flame real quick.

“Metro Parks does not support taking any area at Three Creeks and using it for the Rock on the Range festival,” @cbusmetroparks wrote on Instagram.

Sophia Fifner, a spokeswoman for the city’s recreation and parks department, told The Dispatch Rock on the Range organizers approached the city this spring to inquire about using 40 acres of wetlands in Three Creeks Metro Parks as a venue.

“While generally being supportive of such events within our community, Metro Parks does not believe that hosting such an event within one of the Metro Parks is consistent with our mission (“to conserve open spaces, while providing places and opportunities that encourage people to discover and experience nature”) and the Park Commissioners will actively oppose any such efforts,” they wrote.

A map of what a Three Creeks wetland Rock on the Range would look like was develop but the festival never submitted a detailed proposal to the city.

In closing, Metro Parks wrote, “We, at Metro Parks, wish the promoters success in finding a site that is appropriate.”

Rock on the Range has been hosted by Mapfre Stadium since its inception in 2007.
