“Safer Together Day:” Columbus City School walk out to honor Florida victims

Today has been declared “Safer Together Day” for Columbus City Schools and students across the area are engaging in activities on the one-month anniversary of the deadly school shootings in Parkland, FL.

“In Columbus City Schools, we are SAFER TOGETHER. We are safer when we all work together to prioritize safety, when we act together to protect one another, and when we speak out together about the need to end gun violence,” CSC website

Students are participating in 17-minute walkouts across the district to honor the 17 students and faculty members gunned down in Florida, reports ABC6. Students are also encouraged to participate in classroom conversations dedicated to school safety. Safer Together Day also includes assemblies and rallies lead by students.

“Every school in the District will offer students educational, inspiring, and thought-provoking activities around promoting safety in our schools and reducing gun violence in our neighborhoods,” CSC website
