614Sports: Ohio Machine, Clippers had tough weekend

Clippers Travel South to Stay North of .500

Despite Columbus taking an early 3-1 lead yesterday against the Indianapolis Indians at Huntington Park after just two innings, Indy racked up five combined unanswered runs in the third and fourth.

With that surge, the Columbus Clippers’ 3-game winning streak ended with a 6-3 home loss. However, winning five of the last seven games—including two out of three against the Indians—the Clippers are now one game above .500 on the season.

Just two games behind International League West rival Indianapolis Indians for second place, the Clippers are preparing for seven winnable games over six days in North Carolina (Charlotte Knights) and Georgia (Gwinnett Stripers).

The Columbus Clippers (34-33) start a 3-game series against the Charlotte Knights (30-38) tomorrow with the first pitch at precisely 7:04 p.m.

The Machine Got Rattled Late Last Night in Dallas

The Ohio Machine suffered a 17-16 loss last night in Dallas against the league-leading Rattlers after leading 16-12 going into the fourth quarter. Ohio is the only Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team without a road win so far this season.

Yesterday’s razor-thin defeat stung because the Machine led 16-12 going into the fourth quarter, plus four of Ohio’s past five losses have been decided by an average of just 2.75 goals.

On the bright side, star player #1 Marcus Holman’s scored five goals in the first half and added one more in the second half—his second game of the season with at least six goals—that set an Ohio Machine single-season record.

The Ohio Machine (2-6) return home to play the Denver Outlaws (5-4) this Saturday at Fortress Obetz at 6 p.m.
