Thieves Burglarize Columbus Home While Resident Was Still Inside

Next time you are roaming around your house blasting some music and going about your day, make sure your front door is locked. Just take it from this Columbus resident who learned the hard way on April 29.

According to a report from Fox 28 Columbus, two burglars were reportedly able to sneak into an unlocked home and steal a TV from the downstairs of the apartment while the two people who lived in place were upstairs. You’re probably asking, “How?!” Well, thanks to the song “Whip It” by Devo being played in the apartment at a loud level, the burglars were able to get inside the home without being heard by the residents.

Check out what the home owner had to say to Fox 28 Columbus:

“The TV was on even when they came in. But I just didn’t notice the noise that disappeared. They were very quiet. I didn’t hear them downstairs at all.”

The theft was caught on video and the police are hoping the video will help lead to the arrest of the suspects. Know any information about the crime? You are encouraged to contact Detective Dent in CPD’s Burglary Unit at 614-645-2257 or by email.
