Franklin Park Conservatory fences off 10 acres, residents peeved at privacy

Franklin Park Conservatory is making many changes to “expanded visitor experience” but some of those visitors aren’t too happy with their experience.

In addition to new exhibits, FPC has added Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation Children’s Garden but what really has nearby residents fired up is the wrought iron fence enclosing it.

This 10-acre fence prohibits people from accessing the park ground which was highly tread by people walking dogs, catching the bus, and the like. For the past 25 years, the public had complete access to this property.

Not only has park access been restricted but admission to get inside has jumped $3; general admission is now $18, senior admission is $15, and admission for children ages 3-12 is $11

FPC officials told This Week News that currently, the conservatory is not sustainable but by adding new visitor experiences, like the new exhibits and children’s garden, and increasing admission, they can get closer to sustainability goals so that at some point, the park can maintain itself.

That’s all well and good but one nearby resident told This Week News the role of the park is to offer free and open access to everyone, not just those who can afford it.
