Cute alert: Zoo announces giraffe baby

It’s a boy!

The Wilds announced the birth of a baby Masai giraffe on July 10.

He appears to be happy, healthy, and strong beside his mother Lulu (first-time mama) and father Raha.

The calf may be visible to guest son both Wildside and Open-Air Safari Tours, however The Wilds note that the calf and his mother will remain under the watchful eye of staff.

Baby 🦒’s first steps! A male Masai giraffe was born out in pasture at The Wilds (@visitthewilds) on July 10 and was witnessed by guests on an Open-Air Safari Tour. The calf is sticking close to mom Lulu, but he may be visible to guests on both the Wildside and Open-Air Safari Tours. The animal care staff note that the calf is strong and staying close to his mother. The calf’s father is Raha who was born at the @LAZoo in 2006 and his mother is Lulu who was born at the @CincinnatiZoo in 2012. The breeding of Raha and Lulu was based on a recommendation from the Association of @Zoos_Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan®.
