Chipotle given tax break in exchange for Columbus jobs, investing

Guac will still be extra for Cbusers but at least Chipotle will be bringing the city more than 270 job opportunities.

Columbus Business First reports the restaurant has received a 2.3 percent, 10-year tax credit estimated at $5 million from the Ohio Tax Credit Authority during it’s move from Colorado and New York City to Ohio’s capital.

Back in May, the fast-casual Mexican grill chain announced they’d be leaving their Denver and NYC digs to establish new corporate headquarters in Newport Beach, California and additional corporate function here in Columbus where there are already about 100 Chipotle employees.

The new facility at an address that has not yet been disclosed is expected to cost the company $5.5 million.

Chipotle hopes to create $21.5 million in new payroll while retaining $4.85 million in existing payroll. CBF reports that if those goals are met, Chipotle would receive the full $5 million credit.

Hiring for all positions is underway.
