5 ways to make the most of Memorial day weekend
By now, you probably know where to be this Memorial Day to catch a parade—basically every municipality in central Ohio will have one. When you’re done honoring the sacrifices of our nation’s armed service members, you’ll still have the better part of three free days on your hands.
Looking for some activities to help make the most of your extra free time? Well look no further, friend-o. Here are a few fun activities you should check out this Memorial Day weekend.
Punks and Paddles | DogTap Columbus – 96 Gender Road, Canal Winchester
Brewdog is hosting an open ping-pong tournament at their DogTap facility on Sunday May 26th. Sign up that day from 11am or through Eventbrite and put your pong skills to the test against against other craft beer fiends. The tourney kicks off at 12pm, with the first place winner earning a $50 gift card and a six-pack of their choice going to the runner-up.
Utica Sertoma Ice Cream Festival | 1500 Granville Rd, Newark, OH
Velvet Ice Cream is partnering with Utica’s Sertoma and La Sertoma organizations for at the annual Utica Sertoma Ice Cream Festival on the grounds of the Energy Cooperative in Utica.
Taking place all three days of Memorial Day Weekend, the festivities include ice cream eating contests, over 90 local artisans, pony rides, a classic car show with more than 400 cars and live entertainment – and of course, lots of Velvet Ice Cream.

Memorial Day Weekend at the Buckeye Lake Winery | 13750 Rosewood Rd, Thornville
Kick off your summer of fun with this Memorial Day celebration at Buckeye Lake. The event includes live music, food and wine all weekend long.

Memorial Day Weekend at Columbus Commons | 160 S High St
Columbus Commons will host a weekend of free, fun events for the whole family on Memorial Day weekend.
Family Fun Day at the commons will take place Saturday, May 25, including carousel rides, inflatable games, arts and crafts, and much more. Take note: admittance and many of the activities are free, but some will require a $5 wristband.
And don’t forget to bring along the blanket and folding chairs. The day of family fun will be capped with a free “movie under the stars” screening of Ralph Breaks the Internet at 8:15 pm.
On Sunday, May 26, the Commons will host a free Live Performance of Leather and Lace from Shadowbox Live. No tickets are required to attend the show, which celebrates the women of Rock ‘n’ Roll through live music. Bar and food trucks open at 6:00 PM, with the performance beginning around 8:00 PM.
