Covering many vibrant communities across central Ohio, the 614 is so much more than just Columbus. Welcome to the ‘Burb Breakdown, an ongoing series highlighting the unique character of neighborhoods from across this sprawling metro area we call home. In the first installment of our series, we turn our attention to the lovely city of Bexley.

Bexley is home to some of the state’s finest institutions of higher learning and internationally-known authors alike. The historic Columbus suburb is also known for its many impressive architectural landmarks, like the Drexel Theater the the Ohio Governors’ mansion.

From diverse restaurants to verdant parks and engaging civic events, there’s so much to discover in Bexley. Here are five ways to help you get out and explore everything Bexley has to offer this fall!

Have a Taste of Bexley | October 14, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM | 2010 East Broad Street

Taste of Bexley brings area restaurants and food providers together under one roof for an evening of culinary delights. This event is a great way to sample that Bexley restaurant you’ve been meaning to try for months, along with others you might never have heard of! The affair includes dessert from providers like Nothing Bundt Cakes!, a beer garden featuring three brews from Seventh Son, wine, live music, entertainment, and more. Tickets include unlimited food sampling for just $30 per person, with discounts for children and students available. To learn more, visit www.bexleyareachamber.org

Celebrate with the Bexley Harvest Festival | October 18th | 165 N Parkview Ave

Bexley’s Annual Harvest Festival is packed with fun for the whole family. Each year, the meadow behind Jeffrey Mansion is transformed into an Autumnal dream complete with a corn maze, hay rides, an interactive enchanted forest walk, food, activities, music, and more. Come down to the mansion from 6pm- 8pm for an evening of fall fun, and see for yourself what makes this event a hit with guests from across central Ohio!

Enjoy a Pumpkin Donut from Cherbourg Bakery | 541 S Drexel Ave

Nothing screams fall like pumpkins, right? Cherbourg Bakery is a gluten-free, nut-free, dye-free bakery, trailblazing their way through the Ohio bakery scene with locations in Bexley and Cincinnati. One of Cherbourg’s most iconic treats this time of year is their pumpkin donut—a cake-based donut with a glaze on top that is to die for. The spices and flavors compliment each other so well, you might even have to order a pour over to wash it all down. Cherbourg Bakery locally sources their beans seasonally between One Line Coffee, Mission Coffee, and Roosevelt Coffeehouse.

Enjoy Fall Foliage Throughout Streets of Bexley

The City of Bexley was designated as an arboretum in 2012, meaning they have a whole lot of trees. While you can certainly enjoy the fall foliage in one of the town’s numerous parks, you can also take a stroll down just about any street to soak in all of the fall color and bask in some historic architecture. Better yet, grab a cup of espresso-based magic from Kittie’s Cafe to take with you.

Vote!

While this isn’t an activity related specifically to Bexley, it is one of our most important civic duties. Read up on issues affecting your city, know who is running for councils and boards, prepare your sample ballots, and let your voices be heard!
