Camping SZN: 5 camping spots you can’t miss this summer

The cold days are gone, ya’ll, we survived all three installments of winter in Ohio (first winter, second winter, surprise winter in spring). It’s time to get outdoors, enjoy nature, roast some marshmallows over the fire, and get off the grid if not for a couple moments of bliss.

Cross Creek Camping Resort | 3190 S Old St.

Cross Creek Camping Resort is the perfect place for families to enjoy a weekend. The large pool, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, and dog park offer plenty of ways to keep the kids out of the camper, and each weekend offers special events like fire engine rides or even water balloon fights. CCCR is also conveniently close to Alum Creek. And if you’re not feeling like whipping up a home cooked meal over an open fire, Chesire Market is just down the road with mouthwatering pizza.

Alum Creek State Park | 3305 S. Old State Rd.

Just a stones throw away from Cross Creek is Alum Creek State Park. This park offers more than 3,000 acres of water to play in making it the ideal spot for anyone with water toys like boats, jet skis, and other things I cannot afford, but will gladly ride on with an invite. (Hit me up, Columbus.)

Delaware State Park | 5202 US Highway 23 N

Just a little past Cross Creek is Delaware State Park for anyone looking for a more traditional camping experience. Back in the campgrounds, it feels remote as there’s no busy cars driving by or signs of a city nearby. That being said, this park is insanely close to The Delaware Dam so be sure to pack some bug spray and maybe even a few of those repellant candles for later in the evening.

Scioto Grove Metro Back Packing Sites | 5172 Jackson Pike

And if the idea of a camper or RV sounds like cheating in your book, show off your outdoors skills by staying over night at the Scioto Grove Metro Parks Back Packing sites. You will have to reserve these spots in advance, but this is a chance to truly get off the grid without having to venture too far out of the city. Plus, it’s free to reserve.

Mohican State Park | 3116 State Route 3

Mohican State Park is more of a right of passage for campers than it is anything else. Anyone who camps know how high coveted this site is—you have to book your trip in advance because it fills up so quickly. Whether it’s waterfalls or Insta-worthy nature aesthetics, Mohican is incredible for getting lost in all the best ways.
