“Essential Midwestern” restaurant is North Market’s newest tenant

Hoyo’s Kitchen, a Somali restaurant, will bring a new flare to North Market’s already diverse mix.

Along with his family, Abdilahi “A.B.” Hassan opened the first Hoyo’s location in 2014 on Columbus’s North Side. With the expansion into the North Market, Hassan and his family hope reach a wider audience and encourage more of the community to embrace the exotic, yet familiar, taste of African cuisine.
“The Somali community is a vital part of the fabric of Columbus and now the Somali cultural experience is moving from the edges of our community to find a home in the heart of our city,” said North Market Executive Director Rick Harrison Wolfe. “We welcome Hoyo’s Kitchen to our market family.”
Hoyo’s Kitchen is slated to begin construction at the vacant stall next to Hubert’s Polish Kitchen and across from Little Eater in the coming weeks. Hoyo’s expects to launch at North Market this Spring.
