New popup throws back to the heyday of the neighborhood bar/grill

Mike Thomas

A new popup bar opening this weekend wants to provide patrons with the kind of throwback bar setting they didn’t know they needed back.

“The Royal Fern” is set to open June 30th from 8-midnight. Historic Revelry LLC have partnered with DeKuyper to bring back some favorite cocktails of the past, in a bar with a throwback feeling (but with no specific decade attached).

The inaugural Royal Fern will take place at Wunderbar, followed by follow-up events designed to give the franchised appeal to some of Columbus’ top bars.

Featuring a neighborhood style bar and grill, The Royal Fern is will feature cocktails that time forgot from talented bartenders, Rebecca Monday, Greg Burnett, and Barbara Reynolds.

The first event will take place at Wunderbar 739 S 3rd St, Columbus, OH 43206, and feature a food menu by Pierogi Mountain with favorite dishes-turned-pierogi like loaded potato skins, spinach and artichoke dip, and the classic cheeseburger.

“We wanted to bring back the feeling you got the first time you walked into a TGI Fridays, or Max and Ermas in their heyday. Greeted by a smiling host, handed a giant bright cocktail, and spending time with your friends and family.” Says Josh Gandee of Historic Revelry in a statement.
