Blood results: Judge arrested for OVI was wasted

.199—that’s how much alcohol was in the blood of the Franklin County Judge who got pulled over earlier this month for reckless driving. That’s more than twice the legal limit of .08.

Judge Monica Hawkins of the Franklin County Domestic Relations Court was pulled over in early February after Pickerington police received a 911 call about a car “all over the roadway.” Police dash cam caught her stumbling, slurring her speech, and failing to recite the alphabet.

She refused to take a breathalyzer and resisted a blood draw so strongly that she had to be restrained by hospital security guards.

A reading as high as 1.99 should result in an enhanced OVI charge under Ohio law. However, since she plead guilty last week, the readings have no legal impact on Hawkins, reports 10TV.

Hawkins’ sentencing included a fine of $375 and a suspended 90-day jail sentence. She was given a one-year driving suspension with privileges to and from work, medical counseling appointments, and child activities. She also must complete 3-day residential program within 120 days.

She told 10TV, “This has been horrible, but it will make me a better judge.”
