As the great alt rock band Twin Peaks once said, Yellow Springs is “one of the more beautiful towns,” and as the city likes to call itself, “Everyone’s favorite place.” Maybe you’re not drinking the Kool Aid Yellow Springs is mixing up just yet, but by the end of this article, we bet you will be.

Below are 5 reasons to make the one-hour drive to Yellow Springs this summer.

#1 Springfest 2019

Pardon us for quoting Twin Peaks again, but they called Springfest “chill and hospitable,” and we can’t think of two better adjectives to describe a festival. As always, the 2019 iteration of the community festival will offer a bevy of national and regional musical talents. This year, Deerhunter will be headlining with support from Amen Dunes, Post Animal, Grapetooth, Chris Cohen, Sarob, The Sidekicks, Nothin’, The Ophelias, The Crooked Spines and more.

There’s also plenty of beer to be had, food to be eaten local artisans to patronize, trees to hammock between, and fun to be had at this all-ages event. The event will be held on July 6 at the John Bryan Community Center in downtown.

#2 Glen Helen Nature Preserve

Glen Helen is a 1000-acre private preserve with 20+ miles of trails, 400 year-old oaks, natural water features, and tons of wildlife. Nature programs, guided hikes, and other interpretative experiences are offered for families and individuals throughout the year. But, the park is also open for independent exploration from dawn to dusk 365 days a year. Just remember: take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints.

#3 Young’s Jersey Dairy

This working dairy farm offers a whole lot more than fresh milk and cow patties. When planning your trip to Yellow Springs, a stop at Young’s is an absolute requirement because of the delicious homemade ice cream, home-cooked food, petting zoo, mini-golf, driving range, batting cages, and other seasonal attractions throughout the year. Young’s is the humble family-friendly stop that is sure to put the cherry on top of your trip, literally.

#4 The Tecumseh Sunflower Field

While you may find nothing but an empty plot of ground now, come September, this field along U.S. 68 in Yellow Springs will be bursting with beautiful yellow blooms as far as the eye can see. Not only is this the pristine place to grab a Instagram photo, but Whitehall Farm, where the flowers are planted, is part of the Tecumseh Land Trust that fights to protect and conserve agricultural land.

#5 Dave Chappelle

You may not be shooting your engagement photos on your trip, but that doesn’t mean Yellow Springs resident Dave Chappelle won’t photobomb your memories. A couple got more than they bargained for at Yellow Springs Brewery when the stand-up comedian wiggled his way into the background of their engagement photos. Will you be lucky enough to meet Chappelle on your trip? Who knows, you’ve got to go to find out!
