Linden: Officer ambushed, shot during investigation

A Columbus police officer was ambushed and shot Thursday night in Linden.

The plain-clothes cop was surveilling suspects alone in the area of East Hudson Street and McGuffey Road around 10:45pm as part of an ongoing investigation when the shooting happened.

Police described the officer’s condition as stable, according to police per 10TV.

Police said the suspects realized the officer was following them and turned around to try to get behind the cop’s car. The suspects then pulled up beside the officer and shot him.

The gun was recovered at the scene and three suspects have been taken in custody.

The suspects and the officer have not been identified.

2 former OSU football players facing rape, kidnapping charges

Two Ohio State University football players have been arrested and charged with rape and kidnapping.

Amir I. Riep, 21, and Jahsen L. Wint, 21, were charged late Tuesday by Columbus police and are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning in Franklin County Municipal Court, reports Columbus Dispatch.

The incident is alleged to have occurred the evening of Feb. 4 at the apartment Riep and Wint share on Sawmill Place Boulevard.

The two men have been dismissed from the Ohio State football team.

Police investigating Short North shooting, 2nd in 3 days

Police are investigating a shooting in the Short North, the second in the area in just three days.

According to 10TV, two men got into an argument with two other men just after 3am this morning in the 700 block of North High St. One of the men walked back to a vehicle to get a handgun and fired eight shots.

One man was shot in the back, and another man was cut on the ear by a knife.

A witness told police the suspects left the scene in a silver Ford F-150 pickup truck.

On Friday, a bystander was shot in the face by a stray bullet outside Monarch Lounge located at 700 North High St.

Man shot in face by stray bullet in Short North

Police are investigating after a man was struck by a stray bullet in the Short North early Friday morning.

10TV reports the shooting happened in front of a bar called Monarch at 700 N High St. around 2:15am.

The victim suffered one gunshot wound to the face, and was taken to Grant Medical Center for treatment. He is expected to recover.

Authorities believe a fight broke out between two individuals when people were leaving the business. Investigators per 10TV say someone pulled a gun and fired at least three times.

A suspect has not been identified.
