East side AirBNB party turns into shootout

Mike Thomas

What was supposed to be a group of four people renting an AirBNB on the city’s east side turned into a shootout Monday night.

The incident occurred just after 12:30 a.m. at an AirBnB on East Long Street. Police responded to the scene to find five individuals had been shot.

According to a report from 10tv, the owner of the property, who was monitoring the house via camera, became concerned when many people began arriving on the scene throughout the night. The house, which had been rented to a woman via AirBNB, was only supposed to be occupied by four people.

When the suspicious owner decided to check things out at her property, she arrived to find police on the scene following the shooting.

614NOW has reached out to AirBNB for a statement regarding this incident, and will update this story accordingly.

When reached for comment, a representative at AirBNB had this to say about the incident:

“Unauthorized parties represent a clear breach of trust, and the violence stemming from this incident has no place in the Airbnb community. The guest has been suspended and the listing has been deactivated as we review this tragic incident, and we have reached out to Columbus PD to offer our support in their investigation. The safety of our community is our priority, and with more than 2 million people checking into Airbnb listings every night, negative incidents like this are incredibly rare.”
