Football is back in the 614, and a new “Day” has dawned for the Buckeyes (OK, that’s the last time we’ll use that pun. Honest.)

Whether you’re a diehard Buckeye nut or staunchly sports-averse, you’re sure to find something to enjoy in our annual football issue—like our game day survival guide for fans and “others,” for example.

Don your scarlet and gray, crack open a cold one, and dive into our in-depth coverage of THE greatest show on turf for another year. O-H!

In the issue:

  • The Buckeyes are Back in Town
  • Angela Perley’s Time to Shine
  • Learning to Fly with Skydive Greene County
  • Fit for Fall: How Columbus Stays Fit this Season
  • Serving Up Sow Plated
  • The Last York Steakhouse
  • Autumn Attire

As Ohio continues to deal with the physical and economic toll of the coronavirus, we decided to shine a spotlight on the 'helpers'. These are your friends, neighbors and fellow citizens who have stepped up to contribute in their own ways.

The cover, design and features were inspired by the well-known Mr. Rogers quote... "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping."

If you have any stories of helpers you would like to share, let us know here.

Here's what's inside:

  • Six Pack: Fresh May suds from hometown brewers
  • Julialynn Walker helps community blossom through gardening
  • Yellowbird Foodshed offers alternative to grocery shopping
  • The Saviors: the nurse, the doctor, the mask makers
  • The Innovators: feeding those in need, sanitizing shift
  • The Educators: from college to K-12
  • The Helpers: keeping the music alive, keeping pantries full
  • The Fighters: mobile kitchens to staying on the air with CD102.5
  • Self care while stuck at home
  • Social Distance Cinema
  • Giving thanks: letters from our readers

Well, this wasn't the issue we had originally planned. Life for all of us took a sudden detour in mid-March and here we are - telling the stories of restaurants trying to survive, and tips on making it through our at-home-exile. There is the serious too. Read what our readers thought (back on March 23) about the government response to the COVID-19 pandemic and read a profile on the woman who is inspiring legions of fans - Dr. Amy Acton.

We hope you enjoy this issue and with your support of us and the many businesses advertising in our pages, we will see you again next month :)

Interest in video games falls on a continuum; and if you’ve ever kicked back with a controller, you fall somewhere on it. On one end, you can think of casual players; on the other side are those who take gaming seriously. But what became increasingly apparent as we researched and refined the articles about gaming in Columbus for our cover package was just how much substance there is in between these endpoints.

For readers whose idea of an escape doesn’t involve a screen and a controller, we’ve put together some destinations in Ohio with top-notch food and wine that will help you feel far away without traveling very far at all.

We at (614) highly encourage you to check out numerous destinations this month, whether online or off. Since you never know exactly which castle your princess is hiding in, you might as well explore them all. We wish you well on your quest.
