A very trustworthy cartoon cricket once told me that when you wish upon a star, your dream comes true. Fair enough, but spotting the damn things in the vastness of space can be tricky. If only there was some reliable way to predict where these elusive astronomical phenomena will appear…
As it turns out, you won’t need a crystal ball to find plenty of shooting stars this month—but a telescope probably wouldn’t hurt. Look skyward this month through early November to view the The Orionid meteor shower.
BROUGHT TO YOU BY
Made up from debris strewn by Halley’s Comet, this predictable shower originates in the constellation Orion, and should be visible across much of the night sky—cloud cover notwithstanding.
For the optimal viewing experience, be on the lookout in the hours just before dawn on Oct. 22. Don’t forget to make a wish!
About two years ago, year-around sand volleyball at Woodlands Backyard was but a conversation. Today, we're seeing a little less talk and a lot more action.
The rec bar has announced that they are in the midst of construction an all-seasons dome where volleyballers can bump, set, and spike in subzero temperatures. No matter if we're dealt another Polar Vortex this winter, the Woodlands Backyard dome will be kept at a balmy 72 degrees.
The dome will consist of six courts. Play is expected to begin in November, though the grand opening date has yet to be announced. The second session of indoor sand volleyball is scheduled for January 6.
League registration begins Friday, October 18.
We know this development has been a long time coming, so for those skeptics, Woodlands promises that if the dome falls though, "we will refund you and then go go crawl under a rock and never come out."
Columbus, we know it's becoming sweater weather, but that's no excuse to not give your body the exercised-induced endorphins it deserves.
