We gotta say, we dig Sonny and Chelsey’s style. Not setting a date until two months before you get married? Super chill. Ending up with a truly epic Big Day at one of the city’s most impressive new venues? Turns out, good things come to those who wait.
Some weddings, we’re just super jealous we weren’t invited—just from looking at the photos—which means the local couple really pulled out all the stops for their 200-plus guests, who got to dance the night away with the skyline peeking over their shoulder.
You know you’ve done something right when you look back on your wedding album and it looks like you’re partying with the whole city.
Plus, who doesn’t love a good rooftop shot? Extra points for extra Columbus vibes with the first look on top of the Renaissance.

What do you wish you had spent more money on?
One thing we should have sprung for is transportation for ourselves from the hotel to Juniper, our wedding venue. We had just finished our first look shoot at The Renaissance and realized we had no way of getting to our venue for our ceremony! The shuttle transporting our friends and family was nowhere to be found. We ended up taking an Uber.
Tell us one thing that didn’t go as planned and how you handled it? There was also Sonny forgetting to bring a change of clothes for our family brunch the next day. We had stayed at The Renaissance on our wedding night and had a family brunch planned for the next morning. Sonny hadn’t packed extra clothes, so he wore his wedding suit to brunch, crumpled boutonniere and all. We laughed it off. It gave everyone a good laugh.
Tell us the story of how you got engaged/the proposal.
We met through mutual friends our sophomore year in college. Our early dating years involved a lot of hanging out at Ohio University, Chelsey’s alma mater. While visiting OU in September of 2016, Sonny proposed to Chelsey on a park bench at Emereti Park. It was low-key and unexpected. Sonny filmed the whole thing on his GoPro. Afterward, we celebrated by giggling uncontrollably over beers at Jackie O’s.
If you could tell us one thing that made your Big Day unique, what was it?
We didn’t set a wedding date until two months prior. Those who know us, know last-minute is typically how we roll. It wasn’t intentional but once we found Juniper, we knew it was time to pull the trigger. Friday, October 13, 2017, ended up being the perfect wedding date—we couldn’t have asked for better weather.
