Unwrapping Columbus’ candy scene

614now Staff

Today is National Candy Day, and while the foremost holiday for sugary treats has passed, we can’t think of better timing for another excuse to binge on sweet confections.

Lucky for us, Central Ohio is teeming with spots to get your candy fix, so this is a perfect opportunity to turn to our local businesses rather than the nearest superstore.

Here are the shops that can help you get a sugar rush today, with emphasis on chocolate:

Anthony Thomas
There’s no way we could leave this Central Ohio staple off the list – Anthony Thomas is a household name! With 13 Chocolate Shoppes across Columbus, it’s easy to stop in and pick up a box of delectable chocolates and some of their iconic buckeyes, or non-chocolate sweets if that’s more your speed.
Multiple locations

Krema Nut Company
Their nut butters are excellent, but Krema has much more to offer than spreads. From chocolate-coated nuts and toffees to snack mixes and classic candies, there is something to delight every palate. If you’re hungry for more than candies, you can order a custom PB&J and a milkshake while you browse.
1000 Goodale Boulevard Columbus, Ohio 43212

Buckeye Candy Company
This is the classic candy shop of your dreams! Stock up on hard-to-find childhood favorites, tons of mix and match bulk options, flavored cotton candy, and much more. Bet you can’t get just one treat!

Schmidt’s Fudge Haus
Fudge counts as candy, right? Schmidt’s is a German Village favorite, and for good reason – not only are they masters of gourmet chocolate confections, but they serve up their goodies and a quaint, historic shop. And if fudge and chocolates aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other candies and gifts available.
220 East Kossuth St. Columbus, Ohio 43206

Rocket Fizz Soda Pop & Candy Shop
This may just be the funkiest place for those with a sweet tooth. Rocket Fizz’s nostalgic atmosphere is stocked with shelves upon shelves of retro candies and bottled sodas. It’s also a great store to find unique gifts. Technically it’s a nation-wide brand, but we’re including it because Columbus is its own franchise.
944 N High St, Columbus, OH 43201
